Best Way to Building a Hat Racks : DIY Hat Racks

Hat racks are a wonderful way to show antique hats or a collection of hats you wear all the time. Measure and cut a 3 1/2-inch piece of 2-by-4 using a jig saw or miter saw. A 2-by-4 is 3 1/2-inches long by grinding, which means that the two-section-by-piece 4 will be 3 1/2-inches square.

Place the 2-by-4 flat on a piece of scrap wood for hat racks. The waste will protect your work surface from the drill. Drill a 1/4-inch diameter hole through the center of 3 1/2-inch square. Measure and cut a 12-inch length of 1/4-inch diameter dowel, using a jig saw or miter saw. Sand and smooth ends then apply wood glue to one end of the dowel. Put the glued end of the bore 2-by-fourth.

Set a wooden baby blocks on a piece of scrap wood. Drill half-way through the block, using a 1/4-inch drill bit. The block is at the top of your hat rack. Apply wood glue inside the hole. Place the remaining end of the dowel in the drilled hole in the block. Let the glue dry. Paint or stain the base of hat racks, dowel and block, to end the dumb waiter. Allow the stand dry. Place a hat over the wood block to show.
